Judge Michael Downes was appointed to the Superior Court in July, 2004, and was elected to retain the position that September, 2004.  Judge Downes is a 1977 graduate of Western Washington University, and a 1982 graduate of the University Of Puget Sound School Of Law. He was admitted to the practice of law in Washington in 1982.  He served over 21 years as a Snohomish County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney.  Judge Downes serves on the Superior Court’s Planning/Financial Management and Drug Court committees.  He is chair of the Court Operations committee.  He has been named to the faculty of the State Judicial College.  He also serves on the State Superior Court Judges Association Ethics and Criminal Law committees.  He and his wife have three children.
