Project Description
Bridge #546, on Carter Road, spans Swamp Creek just north of the Snohomish—King County line in the Bothell area. Built in 1966, the bridge is a two-lane, timber and concrete structure which has required increased maintenance in recent years. A weight restriction of 16 tons is currently in effect.
Construction of the new bridge is planned to begin in Summer 2013. A full road closure and detour route will be in place during construction and will continue into late fall/early winter. Notice will be mailed prior to the road closure. The road will be closed to all pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles.
The new bridge will be longer and wider than the existing bridge. A feature of the new bridge will be 5.5-foot wide sidewalks on both sides, replacing the current sidewalk which is only on one side. Five-foot wide shoulders will also be added to accommodate bicyclists. The longer bridge will span the creek eliminating the center piers which currently collect debris and can damage the bridge. Invasive plants near the bridge will be removed and replaced with native plants.
