Project Description

Bridge #546, on Carter Road, spans Swamp Creek just north of the Snohomish—King County line in the Bothell area. Built in 1966, the bridge is a two-lane, timber and concrete structure which has required increased maintenance in recent years. A weight restriction of 16 tons is currently in effect. Snohomish County plans to replace this bridge in 2013*.

The new bridge will be longer and wider than the existing bridge. A feature of the new bridge will be five-foot wide sidewalks on both sides, replacing the current sidewalk which is only on one side. Five-foot wide shoulders will also be added to accommodate bicyclists. The longer bridge will span the creek eliminating the center piers which currently collect debris and can damage the bridge. Invasive plants near the bridge will be removed and replaced with native plants.

Construction of the new bridge is planned for the summer of 2013. A temporary road closure and detour route may be needed during construction. Notice will be given prior to the road closure.

Environmental Review

An environmental review of this project has been completed, in compliance with the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA). A public comment period is now open.
