May Creek Bridge #559 (Gold Bar area) - (#RM611)

Project Description
May Creek Bridge #559 is on May Creek Road, approximately 9 miles east of Gold Bar. High winter flows in May Creek have caused scour damage around the piers and dropped the streambed approximately 5 feet. During late 2008/early 2009 the county Bridge Maintenance Crew repaired the south approach, north approach, south abutment and SE, SW and NW embankments.
On October 16, 2009 County Engineer Owen Carter granted a preauthorization for closure of May Creek Bridge in the event that the bridge needs to be closed in the future due to scour around the footings or bank erosion.
Update March 2011
The bank next to Bridge #559 has eroded and Snohomish County Road Maintenance crews will soon do the work to stabilize it. Due to the advanced erosion and potential future flooding, the banks may continue to destabilize. If this happens, the County will immediately close May Creek Road at the bridge to prevent unsafe traveling conditions.
If bridge closure becomes necessary, first responders and schools will be notified and signs will be posted. The detour route is six miles.
