Description
Snohomish County Public Works is constructing sidewalks and bike lanes along the north and south sides of 228th Street SE, between State Route 9 and 39th Avenue SE. Construction will continue until the end of 2012. Paving and striiping over the roadway will occur in 2013.
The 228th St SE project is part of a larger plan to improve opportunities for walking in the neighborhood and to Miner's Corner County Park that is planned for the southeast corner of 45th Avenue SE and 228th Street SE.
Sidewalks have already been completed along 57th Ave SE (2010), 49th Ave SE (2011), and 45th Ave SE (2012).
The projects are funded by King County and managed by Snohomish County as part of an agreement related to construction of the Brightwater Wastewater Treatment Plant. The agreement provides a total of $70 million for a variety of community assets that include traffic safety improvements, habitat mitigation, the Brightwater Community Resource Center, and parks in Snohomish County.
Roadways identified for safety improvements are:
- 228th Street SE (39th Ave SE to SR9) - RC1534
Construction began during summer 2011 and will continue into summer 2012.
- 45th Avenue SE (240th St SE to 212th St SE) - RC1535
completed during 2012.
- 49th Avenue SE (236th St SE to 228th St SE) - RC1536
completed during 2011
- 57th Avenue SE (236th St SE to 228th St SE) - RC1538
completed during 2010

Construction schedules are subject to change based on a number of factors that include the availability of funding, length of the permitting process, coordination with other agencies, and weather.
