228th St SE/SR9 area projects

January 25, 2012 - 45th Ave SE Update:  

Construction on 45th Ave SE is occurring at two locations north of 228th St SE. The first is between 224th St SE and 228th St SE for the waterline installation which requires a single-lane closure. The second location is near 212th St SE where a storm water detention vault is being installed under the road bed.  The vault work requires a crane that takes the full road width. Traffic delays are up to 20 minutes at each location. School buses and emergency vehicles are given priority passage.

Starting next week the contractor will have a third crew grading for the new curbs on the east side of the road between 228th St SE and 240th SE. This will reduce traffic to one lane and require periodic closures for equipment.

The crew will also finish work on the vault south of 228th St SE and excavate near the southeast corner of 228th St SE and 45th Ave SE in preparation for the new park's utilities. 

We regret the delays and inconvenience for you who must travel between and through the construction zones and we ask for your patience through this difficult passage. Please avoid the construction if there is an alternate route available to you.

The 45th Ave SE project, except for paving, is scheduled to be completed in early March, weather-dependent. 

Description

Snohomish County Public Works is constructing pedestrian facilities along 45th Avenue SE and 228th Street SE. The sidewalk projects along 57th Ave SE and on 49th Ave SE are finished. All four of these projects are being funded by King County and managed by Snohomish County as part of an agreement related to construction of the Brightwater Wastewater Treatment Plant. The agreement provides a total of $70 million for neighborhood improvements that include park facilities (see link below), public safety improvements, habitat mitigation and a community resource center. Roadways identified for safety improvements are:

• 228th Street SE (39th Ave SE to SR9) - RC1534
  Construction began during summer 2011 and will continue into summer 2012.
  
• 45th Avenue SE (240th St SE to 212th St SE) - RC1535
  Construction began during summer 2011and will continue into early 2012. 
  
• 49th Avenue SE (236th St SE to 228th St SE) - RC1536
  completed during 2011
  
• 57th Avenue SE (236th St SE to 228th St SE) - RC1538
  completed during 2010
  
  
• Miner's Corner Park Project - SE corner of 45th Ave SE/228th St SE
