Machias Cutoff/Williams Rd Intersection Improvement
(#RC1561)

View a larger map
Public Works is proposing to improve the configuration of the roadway in the
area around the Machias Cutoff and Williams Road intersection. This intersection has a heavy volume of left turns from westbound Machias Cutoff onto southbound Williams Road. The project will add a left turn pocket and widen shoulders on Machias Cutoff, cut down the existing vegetation at the intersection to improve sight distance, and install guardrail.
A traffic study concluded that Machias Cutoff meets conditions for installation of
a left-turn pocket. The left-turn pocket will provide a refuge area for left-turning vehicles and reduce the likelihood of rear-end collisions. Wider shoulders and the removal of vegetation will improve the sight distance for all three legs of the intersection. The project will provide stormwater treatment and minimize impacts to wetlands around the intersection.
