North Road Project (SR 524 to 164th ST SW) - (#RC7860)
North Road is a 1.8 mile, north-south arterial located between Interstate 5
and the Bothell-Everett Highway (SR 527). It is a well-travelled roadway that
connects to Filbert Road (SR 524) at its southern end to 164th Street SW in the north (see map below). The road has seen a steady increase in traffic in recent years, and the opening of Lynnwood High School along the route increases the importance of upgrading the roadway to meet current and future needs. Snohomish County is planning improvements that will benefit pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.

Planned Improvements
North Road is currently a two lane road with intermittent sidewalks. The county plans to widen North Road to include a center turn lane. When finished, the road will also include continuous sidewalks and bike lanes along both sides of the road from Filbert Road to 164th Street SW. Planting strips will be constructed in several locations where there is sufficient right-of-way. Stormwater detention and water quality treatment systems will handle water runoff and retaining walls will help protect and preserve wetland areas.

An Environmental Checklist was prepared and a Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) was issued in 2010. These documents are available by viewing the links below or from Snohomish County Public Works during normal business hours.

Project Schedule
Construction is planned to begin in 2013, and continue into 2014. The construction schedule is subject to change, however, based on many factors including funding availability, the permitting process and site considerations.
