Oct. 28, 2011:
The 180th St SE/Interurban Blvd project has just been awarded a $500,000 "Rural Towns and Corridors" grant from The Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC). Construction is currently planned to begin in mid-2012. A newsletter will be mailed to area residents before construction when more information is available about the schedule and traffic advisories.
Project Description
Snohomish County is working on a project to improve traffic safety and circulation on 180th Street SE in the area of Interurban Boulevard. Currently two adjacent branches of Interurban Boulevard intersect the north side of 180th Street SE a short 125 feet from each other. The close proximity of the two roadways causes traffic conflicts which this project proposes to address.
A public meeting was held in September 2009 to present seven possible options to resolve the traffic issues. Citizens had a chance to discuss the pros and cons of each option with project staff and to provide comments.
Alternative 7 (view map) was the favored option of citizens and we believe best corrects the traffic issues. As a result, West Interurban Boulevard will be closed at 180th St SE, and a new north/south road will be built on the north side of 180th Street SE from the 59th Ave SE intersection. For details see the August 2010 newsletter posted below.
Construction is tentatively planned to begin in 2012.
