128th St SW / 4th Ave W traffic signal improvement - RC1648
128th St SW - looking west
Federal Safety Grant Awarded
Snohomish County Public Works will use funds from a federal safety grant to improve traffic conditions at two busy intersections in the county: the
128th Street SW / 4th Avenue W intersection in south Everett and
the 164th Street SW / 36th Avenue W intersection in the Lynnwood area.
Traffic signals are currently suspended over the center of each intersection. Additional signals are mounted on four signal poles on the far side, past the intersection (see signal attached to right side of pole in photo above).
When large vehicles approach the intersection they can block view of the
signals for drivers in line behind them. This project will install “near side”
signal posts to enable drivers approaching the intersection to see a traffic
signal sooner. The new signals will be planted 50 feet before a vehicle
reaches the intersection.
Near side signal posts will be installed on each leg of the intersections.
The traffic signals over the centers of the intersections will not change.
Construction is planned for sometime during the summer of 2012.
More details will be available when the contractor is chosen and
presents a schedule.
