Maintenance Center

Cathcart Way
Operations Center

Project Description

Construction of Snohomish County’s Public Works maintenance center began in August 2006 on the County’s Cathcart property located north of Cathcart Way and west of SR9. The County was operating three road maintenance facilities: one in Arlington, one at Paine Field, and one in Snohomish. The newest of these is the Arlington Shop which was improved in the 2000-2003 period to serve North County. The Snohomish and Paine Field Road Maintenance operations were moved to the Cathcart site in 2008.

Completion Scheduled for Early 2008

The Cathcart Maintenance Center was completed in 2008. Maintenance operations currently located at Paine Field and in Snohomish were moved to the new facility to better serve the growing needs of South and East County. In addition, the County’s traffic signal shop was relocated from a leased building in Everett to the Cathcart site. The new maintenance center was built in and around other Public Works Solid Waste facilities located on the eastern portion of the County’s Cathcart property. The site is the base of operations for 250 County employees.

The Center Consolidates Operations

Maintenance operations relocated to the site include: offices and crew facilities for the Road Maintenance Division, a maintenance shop for the Fleet Management Division, office and maintenance shop for the Solid Waste Division, office and shop for the Traffic Signal Group, a materials testing lab, fuelling facility, truck wash and training facilities for the Sheriff.

Consolidating operations and operating from purpose-built facilities improves the efficiency of operations and cost-effectiveness. The Public Works Maintenance shop in Arlington remains where it is to continue serving North County.
