Safety

The safety of volunteers is the highest priority of the Adopt-A-Road Program. Public Works provides a safety-training orientation for group leaders, a safety video for volunteers, safety guidelines, and safety equipment for clean-up events (Safety/Clean-up Kit). The safety equipment includes:

  • high-visibility safety vests and hard hats,
which volunteers are required to wear,
  • a road warning sign, and
  • a vehicle-mounted strobe light.

Before participating in the program, group leaders must attend a safety-training orientation and volunteers need to review the safety video. In addition, Public Works has developed a Safety Guidelines & Pre-Cleanup Checklist and Traffic Control Plan. The Safety Guidelines & Pre-Cleanup Checklist needs to be reviewed by volunteers before clean-up events, and the safety guidelines and traffic control plan must be followed during clean-up events.
