Selecting a Road
What roads can be adopted?
Groups decide what section of roadway they want to adopt, but it must be a:
- County road in unincorporated Snohomish County,
- Section that has not already been adopted by another group, and
- Road that in Public Works’ judgment can be safely assigned.
Federal and state highways, city streets, and private roads are not eligible for adoption under Snohomish County's program.
In general, adopted road sections should be one mile in length. Public Works will conduct a traffic safety review before assigning a section of roadway. To be eligible for adoption, a road must have:
- Shoulders that are at least six feet wide;
- Curb, gutter, and sidewalk; or
- A separated walkway.
Public Works has a list of the road sections that have already been adopted.
- Roads currently adopted (list)
Public Works also has a list and map of "suggested" road sections, which have been pre-approved for adoption - a traffic safety review is not needed. Some pre-approved sections are not available for adoption because they have already been adopted (status is "not available" on the list of pre-approved sections).
