The Environmental Services (ENVS) section is part of the Transportation and Environmental Services Division of the Department of Public Works. ENVS provides a wide range of environmental permitting services to Public Works and other County departments.
The staff of ENVS consists of experts with decades of training and experience in a wide range of environmental and natural resource topics associated with Public Works projects and programs, including:
- Large and small-scale transportation projects
- Bridge construction and repairs
- Construction of stormwater drainage facilities
- Construction of solid waste facilities
- Public infrastructure repair and maintenance
- Floodplain management and flood response
- Fish habitat restoration projects
As part of the project team, the role of ENVS staff is to provide guidance and facilitate regulatory processes so that projects may comply with applicable federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations. This sometimes involves overall project management of the environmental permitting work which includes collaborating with on-call consultants, conducting field studies, preparing technical reports, permitting projects and locating, designing, maintaining and monitoring mitigation sites. ENVS staff prepares comprehensive environmental documents and permit applications, obtains complex environmental permits and approvals and ensures that public outreach is timely and meaningful.

Environmental Project Management
