There are now many retailers, charities and other businesses collecting cell phones for reuse and recycling. Many also take back chargers, pagers, and rechargeable batteries. Check your local electronics store or favorite charity. Below are programs that provide many options.
- Through its national program, Call2Recycle™, the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) can help you recycle your old cell phones and used portable rechargeable batteries. More than 30,000 retail locations participate in the program. Includes search by zip code options for many local retailers.
- ReCellular offers a variety of online resources to make cell phone recycling easy. More than 40,000 locations are included in the cell phone donation box locator. Also, the free online Data Eraser gives you all the tools you need to remove personal information like contact names and phone numbers from cell phones before recycling.
- CollectiveGood is the mobile devices recycling resource for mobile phones, pagers or PDAs. You select the charity that will benefit from your donation and you will receive a donation receipt for your taxes.
- Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association’s Wireless . . . The New Recyclable program, helps you locate options available for properly recycling used wireless phones, devices, chargers, and accessories that are recyclable. Includes search by zip code options for charitable contributions and local drop off points.
