Martha Lake (South)

Martha Lake (referred to as “Martha S.”) is located just east of Interstate 5 between Lynnwood and Mill Creek.  The lake is 57 acres in size and has a maximum depth of 14.6 meters.  Martha Lake’s watershed is 448 acres and is largely developed.  Martha Lake County Park is located on the south shore of the lake next to a state-owned public boat launch.  Gas-powered boats are not permitted on the lake.

Water Quality Information

Summary

Martha Lake (Martha S.) has moderate to high water clarity, low phosphorus levels, and moderate algae and aquatic plants.  The lake shows signs of increasing eutrophication, such as higher phosphorus in the bottom waters and blue-green algal blooms.  The lake may be at risk of future declines in water quality unless nutrients from the lake shore and watershed are controlled.

Reports

A comprehensive Snohomish County State of the Lakes Report was produced in 2003 and includes a specific section on Martha Lake.  Individual lake updates to this report are provided each year as new data are collected.

Data

Snohomish County Surface Water Management (SWM) together with volunteer lake-monitors have been collecting water quality data for Martha Lake since 1997.  Current and historical lake water quality data are available online in SWM's interactive Water Quality Database.

Martha Lake Maps

  • Bathymetric Map - this map shows contour lines of equal depth similar to a topographic map.  Public access sites are also indicated on each map when applicable.
  • Aerial Photo - 2007 aerial photos of the lake with relevant features such as public access sites and nearby roads.
  • Watershed Map - this map shows the boundary of the Martha Lake watershed.  A watershed is the land area that drains into the lake.
