Lake Kayak

Lake Kayak is located in a rural area of the foothills approximately 5 miles southeast of the City of Monroe near the Snohomish-King County line.  The lake covers 16 acres and the average depth is around 4.5 meters.  The watershed is 222 acres and is about 10% developed.  There is no public access to the lake

Water Quality Information

Summary

Lake Kayak has low to moderate water clarity, moderate to high phosphorus levels, and high concentrations of algae.  As a shallow lake partially impounded by a dam, Lake Kayak may be at risk of future declines in water quality.  Maintaining the health of the lake depends on controlling nutrients from lake shore and watershed activities.

Reports

A comprehensive Snohomish County State of the Lakes Report was produced in 2003 and includes a specific section on Lake Kayak.   Individual lake updates to this report are provided each year as new data are collected.

Data

Snohomish County Surface Water Management (SWM) together with volunteer lake-monitors have been collecting water quality data for Lake Kayak since 2000.  Current and historical lake water quality data are available online in SWM's interactive Water Quality Database.

Lake Kayak Maps

  • Bathymetric Map - this map shows contour lines of equal depth similar to a topographic map.  Public access sites are also indicated on each map when applicable.
  • Aerial Photo - 2007 aerial photos of the lake with relevant features such as public access sites and nearby roads.
  • Watershed Map - this map shows the boundary of the Lake Kayak watershed.  A watershed is the land area that drains into the lake.
