Surface Water Management Division
Drainage Technical Assistance Program
(also known as the Drainage Rehabilitation and Investigation (DRI) Program)
A citizen's first contact with the Surface Water Management Division often comes after a heavy rain and they experienced a drainage problem, their road flooded or they had standing water on their property, and they need help figuring out what happened and how to prevent the problem from reoccurring. Their answer is the Drainage Technical Assistance Program (also known as the Drainage Rehabilitation and Investigation (DRI) Program).
Annually, Surface Water Management investigates over 325 drainage problems and talk with hundreds of individual citizens about drainage, water quality, and fisheries issues. Our staff investigate drainage problems in the field, evaluate the cause of the problems, and recommend potential solutions. Each investigation is followed up with a written report to the citizen.
A citizen feedback form, with a self-addressed, stamped envelope, is sent with each drainage investigation report. This information is critical to the continued improvement of our service. The feedback from citizens has been extremely positive.
Staff use the information gained from the investigations to develop the annual list of publicly-funded drainage projects. These potential projects are all rated using a Council-approved ranking system; the highest-ranked projects each year are designed and constructed.
