Snohomish County Marine Resources Advisory Committee

Background

The Snohomish County Marine Resources Advisory Committee (MRC) is a citizen-based advisory committee appointed by the Snohomish County Council. The Snohomish County MRC is one of seven county-based MRCs that are part of the Northwest Straits Commission (external link), a federally funded organization that coordinates efforts to halt the degradation of marine ecosystems in the Northwest Straits region of Puget Sound.

The following links provide more detailed information on the Snohomish County MRC.

NWSC Conference 2009

Northwest Straits Initiative: Building Resilience in the Salish Sea

On November 6th and 7th, Snohomish County MRC members and staff braved wind, rain, and hail to attend the 11th annual Northwest Straits Commission Conference in Bellingham.

Along with participating in outstanding presentations and workshops, attendees had an opportunity to connect with other MRC members and share their ideas and current projects.

Congratulations to our own Mary Cunningham, who was recognized for five years of outstanding service with the Snohomish County MRC!

Meeting Schedule

The Snohomish MRC meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  All meetings are open to the public.

Benchmarks

The Snohomish County MRC uses the same benchmarks as the other Northwest Straits counties to develop its work plan and measure progress toward goals. The five benchmarks (Details external link) are:

Marine Habitats - protect and restore marine, coastal and nearshore habitats, prevent loss, and achieve a net gain of healthy habitat areas.

Marine Life - protect and restore marine populations to healthy, sustainable levels.

Marine Water Quality - protect and restore marine water quality of the Northwest Straits region.

Sound Science - collect high quality data and promote its use and dissemination.

Education and Outreach - promote stewardship and understanding of Northwest Straits marine resources through education and outreach activities.
