Volunteer Cleanup, September 26, 2010
90 volunteers and 3 park rangers spent more than 3 hours removing litter and debris from Snohomish County's newest park property on September 26, 2010.
The group made a big dent on the infestation of blackberries and several trees that were covered in ivy now have their bark showing…I am sure that these trees are saying “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” 96 tires were removed from the pool and the surrounding area.
In addition to huge piles of blackberries, other “trophies” for the day include several piles of garbage, recyclable metal, and one car frame. Also, I think that everyone was surprised to discover that the parking lot under the moss was larger and in much better condition than anyone expected. Another great statistic is that there were no injuries beyond an occasional poke by a blackberry thorn.
La Palmera restaurant provided the fuel that enabled just about everyone who arrived to keep working with a full head of steam until 1 pm. The food that they provided was outstanding…please remind everyone to cast a vote for them for “the Best Mexican Restaurant” in KING 5's Best of Western Washington contest before Oct. 10.
Great team work. Tools provided by the Parks Department, the Stilly/Snohomish Task Force, and the Adopt A Stream Foundation were put to very good use by the many volunteers recruited by the Lake Stickney Conservancy, REI Lynnwood, Earth Corps. It was a fun and rewarding day for all.
