Planning Commission Meeting Schedule
The Snohomish County Planning Commission holds its regular meetings on the fourth Tuesday of every month, unless otherwise noted.  (NOTE:  Meeting times do vary and it is important that you check the agenda of the meeting you are interested in to be sure of the correct time.)  If the commission is not able to complete its work at the regularly scheduled meeting, the issue is continued to the first Tuesday of the following month.

Planning Commission Agenda
The meetings open with Commission Business (roll call, approval of minutes, status of past recommendations).  Commissioners are also given an update regarding Council actions.

The next item on the agenda is usually a Briefing.  Briefings are provided for planning staff to inform the commissioners about a plan or code revision that is scheduled for public hearing at the next month’s meeting.  Staff presents the packet materials, outlines major policy issues, answers questions and arranges to provide additional information as necessary.   The intent is to educate the commission, help them understand the issues and get them ready to hear public testimony.  Citizens are encouraged to attend briefings; however, opportunity for public comment is reserved for the public hearing.

The final item on a commission agenda is typically a public hearing.  Public hearings are the first formal step in the process of  adopting new or amended land use plans and regulations.  The commission chair formally opens the public hearing by asking staff to briefly explain the topic that is the subject of the hearing and outline the major policy issues.  Next, the chair opens the hearing for public testimony.  The clerk of the commission has a sign-in sheet and anyone who is interested in providing testimony should sign in.  Signing in makes the citizen a party of record and, in addition to being able to give testimony, they will be notified of other hearings and meetings associated with the issue.  It also gives the commission chair some idea of how many people want to speak.
