About Long Range Planning
Planning focuses on comprehensive planning for the unincorporated portions of Snohomish County. Land use planning based on the State Growth Management Act (GMA) occupies a great deal of our work program. We work both within the urban growth areas (UGAs) to accommodate current and future growth and in the rural areas to preserve and protect agriculture, forest and mineral lands.
Planning also tracks the County's population and employment; monitors growth and development and evaluates urban land capacity. We work with other County departments, schools and water and sewer districts to assess and improve the County's capital facilities.
Using computerized Geographic Information System (GIS), we create a wide variety of maps illustrating the County's plans and projects.
