Critical Area Regulations (CAR) Update
Snohomish County is required to designate and protect critical areas pursuant to the Growth Management Act (RCW 36.70A.060 and 36.70A.170). Critical areas include fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas, wetlands, geologic hazard areas, critical aquifer recharge areas and frequently flooded areas.
Every seven years, local governments are required to review and revise as necessary, these regulations to assure that they reflect "best available science" (RCW 36.70A.172) related to the protection and management of critical areas.
The County Council adopted revised Critical Area Regulations (CAR) on August 1, 2007, with an effective date of October 1, 2007.
