About the Medical Examiner

Dr. Norman Thiersch is both the Medical Examiner and department director.  As a physician and forensic pathologist, authorized by state statute and County Code, the Medical Examiner:

• Investigates sudden, unexpected, violent, suspicious, or unnatural deaths
  
  
• Determines the cause and manner of such deaths
  
  
• Works in the interest of public health, safety, and welfare
  
  

Our Mission

To provide the citizens of Snohomish County with a modern Medico legal Death Investigation System and to assure them that their interests and those of their loved ones are safeguarded during their time of loss.
