Project Self-Sufficiency

 

Project Self-Sufficiency is a comprehensive program of human services that assists low-income parents in making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency.  Following are highlights of the program:

  • Helps parents of low-income families increase their income through education and employment.
  • Provides support services such as vouchers for emergencies, assistance in finding education or employment that fits, and assistance in finding resources to support education or employment (such as child care, transportation, tuition, and books).
  • Provides access to Section 8 housing voucher.

Applicants must be motivated to work toward employment, job retention, and wage progression goals.

 

Eligibility Criteria include:

  • Must be a resident of Snohomish County,
  • Age 18 or older,
  • Must have care and custody of minor child(ren),
  • Household income below 150% of the federal poverty level,
  • Must have identified a goal for moving your family out of poverty,
  • Be ready and able now to take steps to reach the goal identified, already making some steps toward the goal, and not have a Bachelor's Degree, and
  • Meet HUD requirements for Section 8 Housing.

If you are currently residing in a permanent housing program, you are not eligible for a Section 8 housing Voucher.  Past participants of Project Self-Sufficiency are not eligible to re-apply.

 

Orientation & Application:

Applications are taken for a short period once a year.  To be notified when applications are being taken, or for more details, call (425) 388-7416. 

2011 Orientations will be held in the 1st floor Public Meeting Rooms in the Drewel Building (Admin East) at 3000 Rockefeller Ave, Everett located on the corner of Oakes Ave and Pacific Ave.  Seven orientations have been scheduled, and are available on a walk-in basis (no registration required):

  • Mon., April 18th at 3:00 pm
  • Mon., April 18th at 6:30 pm
  • Tue., April 19th at 3:00 pm
  • Thu., April 21st at 3:00 pm
  • Thu., April 21st at 6:30 pm
  • Thu., April 28th at 4:00 pm
  • Thu., April 28th at 6:30 pm

Orientation includes a detailed overview of the program, review of the application process and an opportunity for questions/answers.  Orientation is scheduled for 20-30 minutes.  Childcare is not provided and we ask that you make arrangements for your children so you can listen to the program explanation without disruption.  Applications are due by Friday, May 6, 2011.
