Essential Job Duties:

·         Process evidence items from crime scenes for latent fingerprints using various chemical processes.

·         Compare latent fingerprints from evidence and/or ten print cards to fingerprints on file or through databases for identification.

·         Prepare & analyze latent prints from crime scenes; access & search AFIS database; enter & retrieve information from AFIS database; report findings.

·         Obtain inked prints from suspects, victims & inmates.

·         Photograph and develop latent prints at crime scenes &/or in a lab.

·         Prepare documents for use in court; give expert testimony; work with detectives and prosecuting attorney’s office as requested.

·         Prepare and present information to groups on various aspects of the forensic science of fingerprints.

·         Develop & maintain computer data files; prepare reports and documents as required.

·         Maintain fingerprint card files for Snohomish County jail bookings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years experience doing latent print comparisons AND successful completion of Basic and Advanced Fingerprinting classes which meet Washington State Patrol (WSP) minimum qualifications for AFIS certification; OR, equivalent training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.  Experience may be as a commissioned officer or as a civilian employee with a law enforcement agency.  Must be able to obtain WSP AFIS certification within six months from date of hire.

 

We will also consider applications for: 

FINGERPRINT TECHNICIAN - TRAINEE (CS) ($2,690 - $3,272 per month plus benefits)

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Two years work experience in a law enforcement agency OR one year experience in fingerprint pattern determination using AFIS; OR equivalent training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.  Must successfully complete basic and advanced fingerprint classes and pass state AFIS test for WSP certification within two years from date of hire.  Upon successful completion of two year training period, incumbent will be reclassified to Fingerprint Technician.

Special Qualifications:

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License, unrestricted except as to vision, prior to appointment.  Must be a United States citizen; minimum 21 years of age, no maximum age.  Pre-employment drug screening is required. Shift, holiday and weekend work may be required.

 

Applicants must submit a completed application form and supplemental questionnaire to the Civil Service Commission by the closing date of January 20, 2006.  Applications will be screened to determine minimum qualifications are met.  All qualified applicants will be scheduled for a written examination that will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2006.  A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the written test.  Oral board interviews will be conducted on Friday, February 17, 2006, for the top 15 passing scorers for both Fingerprint Technician and Fingerprint Technician Trainee.  The total score will be determined by 50% of the written test score and 50% of the oral board average.  This combined score must be 70% or higher for the candidate’s name to appear on the eligibility list.  Two lists may be established as a result of this testing process. 

 

Additional screening prior to appointment may include, but is not limited to, a complete background investigation, criminal record check, fingerprinting, a polygraph examination, pre-employment drug screening and a psychological evaluation.
