Essential Job Duties:

 

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

 

  1. Provides comprehensive mental health care services with responsibility for examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, within scope of licensing and qualifications; develops health care plan according to established standards of care in a correctional setting.

 

  1. Provides treatment and advice to patients as may be indicated; prescribes medications, secures case history and related pertinent information; examines patients, utilizes laboratory and other diagnostic tests, interpreting findings for diagnosis; diagnoses ailment(s) and provides necessary treatment and follow‑up treatment as may be indicated and within scope of qualifications license; consults with jail mental health professionals (MHP’s) and community providers as needed.

 

  1. Refers patients with serious medical conditions to ARNP (Adult Medicine) if indicated or refers serious mental conditions to the mental health professional staff if indicated.

 

  1. Maintains clinical records on all patients seen in a manner consistent with confidentiality of health care records guidelines and department regulations protocol.

 

STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES

 

  1. Conducts face to face assessments with inmates in both the medical clinic and on the inmate housing units when indicated.

 

  1. Consults with the Health Services Administrator or Registered Nurse Supervisor, Lead Mental Health Professional, families, contract Medical Professionals, staff and other outside providers as may be necessary.

 

  1. Provides instruction, guidance or in‑service training to mental health, medical, and detention staff as appropriate.

 

  1. Develops and updates standing orders; participates in the development of mental health protocols.

 

  1. Reviews all suicide attempts; conducts face to face assessments.

 

  1. Participates in developing and determining the standards of care and goals of the Mental Health Services as well as the development and implementation of a quality assurance program as needed.

 

  1. Participates in a shared on‑call system with other providers as scheduled.

 

  1. Participates in management/departmental meetings as requested.

 

  1. Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) (Psychiatric) must have completed a formal nurse practitioner program and be certified for advanced practice in the State of Washington; AND, a Bachelor of Science degree in psychiatric nursing (BSN); AND a Master's degree in nursing or related health care field and a minimum of one (1) year experience is required; current Washington ARNP licensure with prescriptive authority; AND, experience in mental health setting, with demonstrated ability to relate effectively with people of varied backgrounds. Past experience in correctional health care preferred.  Candidates must be a United States citizen.  Must pass job related tests.

 

Special Qualifications:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

Candidates must successfully pass a criminal history background investigation, a polygraph examination, a psychological evaluation, and pre-employment drug screening.  A valid Washington State Driver's License, unrestricted except as to vision, will be required prior to appointment.  Candidates must be at least 21 years old at the time of application, no maximum age.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT  - Employees may be required to restrain, lift or move inmate for emergency medical purposes. Mental health assessments require good hearing and vision.

 

SUPERVISION - Employees perform assigned duties independently under the guidance of the Health Services Administrator.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS  - The work is performed in a maximum security detention facility for adults. Employee may be required to work weekends, and holidays as assigned.

TESTING PROCESS - Oral board interviews will be scheduled for qualified applicants and will be conducted on a continuous basis throughout the advertising peirod.  Candidates who score 70% or higher will be placed on an eligibility list for this position.
