Long Term Disability

Snohomish County provides a long-term disability plan, which covers any accident, illness, or injury on or off the job through The Standard Insurance Company. The premium is fully paid by the County and covers all active employees working more than 20 hours a week.

Long Term Disability Policy Description:

About Long Term Disability

There is a 90-day waiting period before a claim will be paid. You may use vacation, sick leave, comp time, shared leave, leave without pay or work in a light duty position or reduced schedule in your own position.

It is recommended that you call your Human Resources Representative if you have an accident or illness in which you are absent from work a month or more. This will allow us to initiate the LTD application process. This way when you have completed your 90-day waiting period; the application for benefits will have been processed and you can start receiving your monthly disability payments if approved.

The long term disability monthly payment will be 60% of your pre-disability gross wages (maximum $3,000 per month). For employees in the management and exempt disability plan, disability payments will be 66 and 2/3% of your pre-disability gross wages (maximum $5,000 per month). If your injury or illness also qualifies you for workers compensation, you are still eligible to apply for the long-term disability. While on worker’s compensation, you are eligible to receive a minimum benefit of $100 a month, as a subsidy to your worker’s compensation benefits. If you are permanently disabled you will be covered by this plan until age 65.
