Snohomish County was quick to respond when the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was signed into law by President Obama in February of this year. So far, more than $100 million in funding requests have been submitted by various Snohomish County departments. As a result, today more than $40 million in federal grant awards have already found their way into crucial county projects and programs, helping to save or create up to 505 local jobs.
Executive Aaron Reardon has directed all departments to search for ARRA grant opportunities. Many of the awards already received will make county government more efficient and effective in serving Snohomish County residents’ needs.
“The more funding we can generate through the national recovery program, the better set Snohomish County will be as the economy begins improving,” Reardon said. “Already we’re seeing direct benefits from this money in terms of job creation, infrastructure improvements and better services.”
Applying for and receiving federal recovery funds is an ongoing process. Application deadlines and award dates for recovery funding requests vary widely depending on the type of federal program and funding source. Many grants are competitive as well, so not all funding proposals are successful. The graphic above indicates results to date for funding requests submitted by Snohomish County.
