Council Receives Recommendations to Expand Farmland Preservation Programs
The Snohomish County Council received a report called, "Snohomish County Purchase of Development Rights/Transfer of Development Rights Strategic Opportunities for Conservation and Growth Management Research Findings and Program Recommendations." The report was prepared by the Cascade Land Conservancy under contract with the County Council. Partial funding was provided by a grant from the Washington State Office of Farmland Preservation. The report is available online as a large (20MB) file in PDF format. Snohomish County will consider the report and discuss implementation options at future meetings.

County Approves Conservation Futures Acquisitions
Land to be Preserved for Habitat and Recreational Purposes On Tuesday, the Snohomish County Council, with support from the County Executive, took action to approve the allocation of more than $3.1 million from the county’s Conservation Futures fund to assist with the purchase of more than 3,000 acres of land throughout the county to be used for a variety of open space and recreational uses.

Committee Appointed to Redraw District Boundaries
On Wednesday, the Snohomish County Council appointed four members to serve on a committee to redraw council district boundaries. District boundary lines are adjusted every ten years after census data is received from the state to equalize population among the districts.

Somers, Reardon Approve of Land Strategy Protecting Farms, Fish
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon and Council Chairman Dave Somers commemorated Tuesday the completion of the first phase of the Snohomish Sustainable Lands Strategy, which provides simultaneous protection for agriculture and environment.
3 January, 2011 Council Names Chairperson The Snohomish County Council on Monday named Dave Somers as Council Chair for 2011.
