Career Opportunity: Corrections Assistant

Corrections Assistants at Snohomish County Corrections provide a wide variety of essential office duties within the facility.  Employees in this job classification can be assigned to various areas such as cashiering, commissary, and reception. 

As a cashier Corrections Assistants are responsible for accounting for money that inmates booked into the jail have and accepting money from families and friends of inmates and putting it onto their account.  They may also process files for inmates being released and return money when inmates are released.  They provide information over the phone and directly regarding an imate's bail and accept bail bonds and cash for inmates that are in custody.

When a Corrections Assistant is assigned to Commissary they are responsible for processing orders for goods placed by inmates.  They deliver the products and ensure that all inmates get what they ordered.  They also make sure the money for the products is deducted from the inmate accounts.

The Reception Area calls for a completely different set of duties.  The Corrections Assistants answers the phone and directs calls to the proper place.  They also check in and screen professional (attorneys, case workers, etc.) and social visitors that have come to see their clients, friend, or family.

Other jobs also exist in the facility that a Corrections Assistant can be assigned to.  These positions are generally clerical and/or office assistant type jobs that provide support to Administrative functions or programs in the department.
