Housing/Classification
Snohomish County Corrections has a classification unit whose function it is to classify inmates and separate those who present risk to others from those who are well behaved and present minimal risk. The classification unit determines risk by assessing each inmate’s current offense, offense history, escape history and behavior.
When assessing behavior and offense history, particular attention is given to inmates with a history of aggression or predatory behavior or offenses. All of these factors are used to determine groups of inmates who are compatible to be housed together, separating the well behaved and non-violent offenders from those with violent history and behavior. Additionally, inmates have regular contact with custody and classification staff and are encouraged to bring forth any concerns they may have regarding their personal safety or the safety of those around them so that proper actions can be taken to ensure the safety of all inmates.
