Excusing/Postponing Jury Duty


Excuse from Jury Duty

 

Requests to be excused from jury duty must be in writing.  You may request to be excused from jury duty using the online jury response web page or by completing the paper questionnaire at the bottom of your summons and mailing it to Jury Management in the envelope provided. 

Except for a person who does not meet the eligibility requirements for jury duty, no person may be excused from jury service except upon a showing of undue hardship, extreme inconvenience, public necessity, or any reason deemed sufficient by the court for a period of time the court deems necessary. (RCW 2.36.100)

If you are requesting to be excused for a medical reason, please provide a letter from your doctor regarding your current conditions.

If you are requesting to be excused due to financial hardship, please provide a letter form your employer regarding their jury duty pay policy.

If you are requesting to be excused due to a work hardship, please provide a letter from your employer.

Many cities in Snohomish County border other county lines, such as Bothell, Woodinville and Stanwood.  If you are not a resident of Snohomish County you cannot serve as a juror for Snohomish County.  Please complete the eligibility requirements on your questionnaire and return it in the envelope provided.  You will be excused from jury duty if you don't meet the requirements.

Your request to be excused will be reviewed once Jury Management receives it.  You will receive a response in writing if you have been excused or if your request has been denied.


Postponement

 

If necessary, you may postpone your jury term to a more convenient time.  You may request to postpone your jury service one time using the online jury response web page or you may request to postpone your service by calling Jury Management at 425-388-3386. Before you call be prepared to select a future time, at least two months from now, you can serve.  Postponements of jury duty are limited and are granted at the court's discretion.
