Obtaining a Marriage License
Office Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The Office is closed for lunch daily from 12:00 NOON to 1:00 PM. Licenses will not be issued Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays or "Furlough" Days.

Application Instructions: Both parties, bride and groom, must sign the application before a notary public or deputy auditor. The marriage license will be given to the parties upon application. The license is not valid (cannot be used) until the third full day after the application is filed. For example, if the application is made on Monday, the first day it can be used is Thursday. The 3 day waiting period cannot be waived under any circumstance, including court order. When completing the marriage application, Use Black Ink Only.
Application By Mail: If applying by mail, please submit at least 30 days prior to the ceremony to ensure sufficient processing and return mail time. When completing the marriage application, Use Black Ink Only. Money Orders or Cashier Checks Only. Make payble to Snohomish County Auditor. Note: No personal checks accepted. Please include a contact name, address and phone number where you may be reached if necessary.
Please Note: When printing this Marriage Application, please ensure your print quality is clear and legible in order to meet State Formatting requirements for Image Quality. Remember, you are creating a Permanent Record! This will prevent the possible rejetion of your document by Snohomish County Recording Staff.
Age Requirements: Legal age for both groom and bride is 18 years old. Witnesses or blood tests are not required to obtain a marriage license in the State of Washington.
17 Year Olds: One parent or legal guardian must accompany the under aged applicant and sign the marriage application form granting consent. Parent must have authority to consent to marriage. Legal guardians must provide original or a certified copy of the legal guardianship documents.
16 Year Olds or Younger Applicants must have the consent of Superior Court. In Snohomish County, please contact Family Court Investigations at 425-388-3140.
