Application Instructions
Couples may apply for a marriage license in-person or by mail. When completing the marriage application, use black ink only. Both parties must sign the application before a deputy auditor (or a notary public if the application is by mail). A marriage license will be given to the parties upon receipt of the completed application and fee.
The license is not valid (cannot be used) until the third full day after the application is filed and expires 60 days from the date the application is filed. For example, if the application is made on Monday, the first day it can be used is Thursday. The 3 day waiting period cannot be waived under any circumstance, including court order.
Submitting By Mail
If applying by mail, please submit completed and notarized application and payment at least 30 days prior to the ceremony to ensure sufficient processing and return mail time.
When printing the marriage application, please ensure the printed application quality is clear and legible. This will prevent the possible rejection of your document by Snohomish County Recording Staff.
Payment for applications submitted by mail is by money orders or cashier checks only. No personal checks accepted. Make payment payble to Snohomish County Auditor. Please include a contact name, address and phone number where you may be reached if necessary.
