Changing name and address
Name Change
If your name has been changed by court action, the vehicle title and registration must be changed to reflect your new name. You, as owner, must bring the title, current registration, certified court order and proper identification to a license subagency or the Snohomish County Auditor’s Office.
If your name has changed without obtaining a court order, such as by marriage or divorce, you, as owner, must bring the title, registration and proper identification to any vehicle license office. You will be required to complete and sign an affidavit of name change at that time.
The cost of this transaction is $9.00. License subagencies charge a nominal fee in addition to the transaction fee to provide licensing services in your community.
Address Change
Insuring that all vehicle license records reflect their most current address is the responsibility of the vehicle owner. Address changes should be mailed to the Department of Licensing, P O Box 9909, Olympia, WA 98504. You must include the plate number to each vehicle registered in your name.
When licensing your vehicle with a renewal form provided by the Department of Licensing, be sure to make any address changes necessary in the space provided on the form.
Effective January 23, 2005 DOL began requiring vehicle owners in our state to add their Washington State primary residence street address to their vehicle's registration record when the vehicle is first registered in out state or being renewed.
