Snohomish County Agricultural
Economic Development Action Team (SAEDAT)
Preserving and enhancing the agricultural economy in Snohomish County is one of Executive Aaron Reardon’s top priorities. As outlined in Snohomish County’s Agriculture Action Plan, SAEDAT was convened to develop a set of recommendations that will:
- Preserve a land base for agriculture
- Pursue complementary industries
- Create more effective infrastructure services
- Develop strategies for new products and markets
The SAEDAT team was comprised of more than 50 representatives from various agricultural-based businesses and members of the financial community and included land use, marketing and infrastructure subcommittees.
Co-chairs were Cliff Bailey, retired dairy farmer/owner of Bailand Farms, and Tristan Klesick, farmer/owner of Klesick Family Farm. Other members included Dr. Carolyn Henri, Ag Economist; Carol Krause, a Snohomish farm owner; and Cliff’s son Don Bailey, owner of Bailand Farms.
An Ad Hoc committee, SAEDAT met monthly for nearly two years, finalizing their report to the Executive with a presentation in February, 2007.
