Diversity Council
What We Do
The Snohomish County Diversity Council recommends resources, education, training, outreach and support to enhance a diverse and inclusive environment within Snohomish County Government.
Snohomish County promotes culturally competent and inclusive behaviors and services at all times. Cultural competence among staff includes an awareness of their own cultural worldview, as well as, an ability to understand, communicate, and effectively interact with people across cultures. We recognize cultural competence is an ongoing process that evolves over time.
Why We Do It
Inclusive practices place value on the diversity of our staff, partners and community.
Diversity is a part of every aspect of our daily work. Snohomish County workforce must be willing and able to understand different cultures and world views so that help may be offered in a way that an individual can utilize. While no individual or organization can be an expert in all cultures, working towards an increasing degree of cultural competence is important.
Who We Serve
The Snohomish County Diversity Council respects and supports the ethnic identity and cultural diversity of all employees and citizens it serves. Snohomish County Government seeks to provide culturally relevant services and to prevent discrimination in every aspect of service delivery. In an effort to understand the varied histories and experiences of its clients, Snohomish County takes into account cultural ethnicity, race, color, sex, religion, marital status, national origin, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, veteran status, or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability in accordance with state and federal laws.
