General Description of Board Duties:

The mental health advisory board’s purpose is to advise the county executive and county council, through the department of human services, on all matters related to the publicly funded mental health system in Snohomish county.

 

Duties include:

  • Reviewing and evaluating the mental health needs, services, facilities and related issues within Snohomish county to be addressed by the publicly funded mental health system;
  • Advising the county executive and county council, through the department of human services, on matters relating to community mental health services, priorities and needs;
  • Advocating in the public and private sectors in the interests of community mental health services, issues and consumers;
  • Advising the county executive and county council, through the department of human services, on public mental health policies developed in response to state and federal laws and guidelines;
  • Acting as a vehicle for public input for Snohomish county residents and interests to the publicly funded mental health system; and
  • Providing budgetary review and input to the county executive and county council, through the department of human services, by reviewing annually the activities of the community mental health program, including a financial accounting of expenditures and a plan of proposed expenditures for the next year.

  • No more than four (4) elected/appointed city officials
Qualifications and Restrictions:

An active interest in issues pertaining to publicly funded mental health services is required.  Ideal board members include consumers, family members, community advocates and representatives of other systems with an interest in coordinating services.
