The Snohomish County MRC is seeking up to three new members. The MRC is a volunteer citizen group that addresses local marine issues and recommends action to the County Council and Executive. It is one of seven county committees in Northern Puget Sound involved in the nationally recognized Northwest Straits Marine Conservation Initiative. The Snohomish County MRC conducts projects which focus in four areas: nearshore habitat restoration, education and outreach, Dungeness crab stewardship, and marine water quality.
Interested parties need not be experts in marine management issues, but are expected to have a willingness to learn about marine conservation, participate in research founded on sound science and contribute opinions on marine issues over a three-year term that runs 2010-2012. The MRC is looking for individuals who can commit to monthly evening meetings, held in Everett the third Wednesday of every month from 6:30-8:30pm and at least 15 hours per month for MRC project planning and implementation.
Membership is open to Snohomish County residents or organization representatives whose official work area is Snohomish County. Interested parties representing local governments, economic interests, recreation, environmental, or conservation groups are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to those who can advise on the development of proposed marine stewardship areas and can participate in project planning and implementation.
