Snohomish county department of human services has authority to administer and coordinate county programs and projects relating to human services in accordance with county, state and federal laws or regulations, including programs designed to ensure that the needs of developmentally disabled persons are met. (SCC 2.400.030)
Washington state statue (RCW 71A.14) defines the County’s responsibilities in the area of developmental disabilities and outlines the option for a community board to be established to advise the County regarding its duties.
Duties include:
- Working with county developmental disability staff in an advisory role in regard to the county’s responsibilities;
- Review of contracting of state funds;
- Community planning and resource development; and
- Development and review of locally funded grants.
- The board also provides a regular monthly forum for community members to bring all issues and concerns “to the table” for discussion and review, and can request staff develop and/or sponsor special community forums and training opportunities as need arises.
Board must include:
- Representation from each Council District
- 50% membership comprised of individuals with developmental disabilities or family members
- Professionals and invested community members
