 2009 Citation of Merit Award


Awarded by:
Washington Recreation and Parks Association (WRPA)

Description: Through a partnership with Surface Water Management and a grant from the Department of Ecology, a living exhibit that replenishes our ground water system with what was previously storm drainage was constructed on the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, providing ecological benefits and education for years to come.

Description: The Willis Tucker Community Park provides multiple active and passive recreational opportunities for the surrounding community. The park provides facilities that are universally accessible; serves multiple age groups, and includes covered and indoor activity centers.

 Most Favorite Place to Visit in 2009, 4th Place - Spray Pad at Willis Tucker Park

Description: Nearly 191,000 people voted the spray pad and playground feature at Willis Tucker Park as their 4th most favorite place to visit in this year's Best of Western Washington contest. Everett's Forest Park was chosen as No. 1. "We know that Willis Tucker is a favorite destination of residents in Snohomish County," said Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon. "From top-class ball fields to walking trails to its spray pad and off-leash dog area, there's something for everybody."

 2009 Citation of Merit Award

Description: Snohomish County Parks and Recreation partnered with Sound Publishing, Inc. to create a coffee-table style magazine at no cost to Snohomish County. The “Live green/Love parks” brochure is a great example of a strong public–private partnership that generated revenue, built stakeholder equity and enhanced markets for programs and services.

 2009 Distinguished Service Award

Description: Bill Karras retired December 31, 2008, after 32 years service to Snohomish County Parks & Recreation.  Bill brought many new ideas to the park system and eagerly promoted what the department had to offer. His innovative and creative contributions to parks and recreation have genuinely contributed to the successful department it is today.

Description: The annual Washington State Fair Association Convention holds a competition of photographs taken at the 70 member Fairs. Evergreen State Fair’s photographer Bob Kash received awards in 4 different categories from the more than 280 entries judged.

 2009 Black and White Award


Awarded by:
Washington State Fair Commissioners

Description: Each of the 70 fairs in Washington is evaluated annually by Fair Commissioners representing the State Department of Agriculture. One component of their evaluation is recognizing outstanding and creative efforts in competitive exhibit departments and presenting those efforts with the coveted “Black and White” award. Evergreen State Fair was honored with two of these awards: for outstanding exhibits and display in the Public Demonstrations and 4-H Plants and Soil Science Departments.

 2008 Citation of Merit Award


Awarded by:
Washington Recreation and Parks Association (WRPA)

Description: Formerly a derelict resort and tavern property, the Lake Goodwin lakefront park development project re-established the historic access to the site’s freshwater shoreline. This new park development project provided recreational facilities for swimming, wading, fishing, picnicking, and environmental education and interpretation. ADA disabled access criteria were incorporated throughout the entire site, including the waterfront elements.

Description: The Washington Recreation & Park Association presents a series of awards that have become a coveted honor for the individuals and organizations singled out for their contributions to parks and recreation.
